Mobile Auto Detailing Deductions: Equipment, Products, and Ceramic Coating Expenses
Mobile auto detailing is a high-margin business with exceptionally low material costs. Products and supplies run 5-12% of revenue, one of the lowest material percentages among trades. The reason is simple: detailing products are applied in small quantities per vehicle, and the primary input is skilled labor and time. A bottle of ceramic coating that costs $100 can coat 3-5 vehicles at $1,500 each ($4,500-$7,500 in revenue from $100 in product). This means most revenue flows directly to taxable profit, making deduction tracking important for every dollar. The vehicle, equipment, and marketing expenses are where the deductions live.
